How Implants Work
The introduction of dental implants has transformed the way we are able to replace missing teeth. They have allowed us to offer patients a long-term solution for restoring teeth with implant-supported crowns, bridges, and full dentures. This advanced dental technology can provide teeth that feel just as strong and as stable as your natural teeth. We strive to make them every bit as comfortable, while aesthetically enhancing your smile.
If you are struggling with tooth loss, or know you will soon lose teeth, contact Winterset Dental Care to book your consultation with Dr. Anil K. Agarwal. This initial appointment will enable Dr.Agarwal to explain treatment more fully and to evaluate your suitability.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are designed to artificially replace a tooth root using a small titanium post that is surgically inserted into the jaw. There is no need to be concerned, as we will ensure you are comfortable and relaxed during this procedure. At this step, we insert single or multiple dental implants as required. Once the surgery is complete, we give the implant time to bond or fuse with the surrounding bone. They call this process Osseointegration. During this time new bone cells grow on and around the specially treated implant post, fusing it firmly in place until it becomes strong. The fusing needs to take place until it is stable and able to support a new restoration. We know many patients are concerned they will be left without teeth during treatment, but we can place a temporary restoration so you will still be able to eat, talk and smile.
As soon as your implants have fully integrated with the jawbone, Dr.Agarwal will attach an abutment to the dental implant post. This protrudes above the gum line and supports the crown, bridge or denture. The final step is to make your new restoration, which we carefully design to restore appearance and function. Once in place, your new restoration should feel instantly comfortable and natural.
What Are the Benefits
of Dental Implants?
Dental implants are able to offer several important benefits compared to more traditional restorative treatments. These include:
Superior Strength and Stability
Traditional restorations often lack the strength and stability found in natural teeth. By replacing your natural tooth roots with artificial tooth roots, we can restore your missing teeth. This allows us to do it in a way that provides the strength and stability previously only found in natural teeth. Implant-supported teeth cannot move or shift position and will allow you to eat just about anything you desire.
Provided you care for your dental implants correctly, you should enjoy the results of this treatment for life. Here at Winterset Dental Care, we are so confident in the quality of our dental implants that we offer a 10-year warranty for our implants and our implant-supported restorations.
Improved Dental Health
When you lose natural teeth, you will lose jawbone stimulation, resulting in bone resorption. This means when you replace a tooth root, a dental implant can halt this bone loss. This will also protect your oral health and the health of your remaining teeth. No other dental restoration offers this type of protection.
Who Can Have
Provided you are in good dental health and have good overall health, you are likely to be a good candidate for dental implant surgery. Ideally, you should be a non-smoker, or you must quit during this procedure. Your jawbone density is another important factor, as insert the dental implant into the strong and healthy bone in order for treatment to be a success. Jawbone loss occurs if you lost your natural teeth quite some time ago, or if your jawbone has been destroyed due to periodontal disease. There is no need to be concerned if your jawbone isn’t quite strong enough as Dr.Agarwal can perform a bone graft to restore missing bone. Your initial consultation will determine if dental implants are the most suitable option for you.
