Two fingers, two thumbs, and two minutes – that is it. This is the solution for minimizing larger, and more expensive, fillings in your mouth. It is also the solution for eliminating or reducing bad breath. Even in the large economy size, dental floss isn’t heavy so it is easy to carry in a pocket, purse, lunch bag, or glove compartment. So why do people try to avoid this simple habit?
I’d like to think that it is because they like the Winterset hygienists and dentists sooooo much.
But I realize that flossing rarely makes chunks of food and popcorn hulls fly out of one’s mouth, so it must be perceived as “not doing enough” to be worth the effort. Often, the gums don’t look any different so you don’t develop a movie star appearance or take ten years off of your appearance. Bottom Line: It is Human Nature to forego activities that appear to have no tangible merit.
So why do we take the time to vacuum the carpeting and scrub the bathrooms? Answer: Because we don’t want to ruin these useful household items. We also don’t want the big expense involved with replacing them, when their appearance becomes disgusting. How is this so different from our teeth?
You know what they say about an ounce of Prevention.
