Oral Sedation & Dental IV Conscious Sedation in Chicago & Orland Park
Say Goodbye to Dentist Appointment Nerves
Dr. Agarwal and his team are dedicated to ensuring our patients are comfortable and feel relaxed throughout their visits. They provide a relaxing, stress-free environment, explain procedures in detail and answer any questions.
Because our doctors want everyone to receive the dental care they need, they go to great lengths to ease the anxiety and fear that often cause people to avoid visiting the dentist. For this reason, for certain procedures and patients, the doctors provide dental sedation to patients.
Our purpose is to provide high-quality dental care that goes beyond ensuring comfort during procedures. It starts with making patients feel comfortable and relaxed from the moment they walk through the door.
Comfortable & Relaxed Dental Visits
To make our patients feel at home, we provide an inviting, comfortable reception area with modern furnishings and private consulting rooms and operatories. The doctors and staff treat you like family, taking the time to fully explain procedures and answer any questions you may have.
Our oral sedation patients are provided with various amenities to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed at all times. Pillows and blankets are available for your comfort, as well as music and TV in every room to provide a more relaxing experience during your procedures.
Sedation Options for a Stress-Free Appointment
For patients who are anxious or need further help relaxing during dental procedures, qualified members of Dr. Agarwal’s team are trained to administer IV sedation, as needed. With IV sedation, the sedative induces a deeply relaxed sleeplike state from which you can be easily awakened.
Sleep Dentistry for Comprehensive Care
For treatments requiring the patient to be fully asleep during the procedure, the practice uses a qualified medical doctor to administer anesthesia and monitor sedation.

Are You Conscious During IV Sedation? How Would You Know?IV sedation puts you in a state of semi-consciousness where you won't be fully aware of what's happening but may hear sounds or feel certain sensations throughout your procedure. Patients can respond to verbal cues from the dentist and staff, but will most likely not remember anything once the procedure is over.

What's the Difference Between Oral and IV Sedation? Both oral and IV sedation reduce anxiety and help ease patients into a state of relaxation for comfortable dental care. Oral medications are taken by mouth, usually 1 hour before the appointment, and are very effective for simple dental procedures like cleanings, cavities, and root canals. IV (Intravenous) sedation requires an experienced dentist to place an IV line in a vein and provides a deeper relaxation for more extensive dental care requiring longer appointments.

How Long Does the Duration of the Sedation Last? The effects of sedatives will vary from patient to patient. Oral sedation is expected to last for approximately 1-3 hours after taking the medication and IV sedation can last anywhere between 2-8 hours. As soon as the IV injection is removed, patients begin to wake up after 20 minutes and fully recover within six hours of receiving the IV.
