Pursuing One’s Passion

Patients tell me that I am in love with dentistry because I am enthusiastic and study it so much. They are correct! I’ve attended over 2200 hours of educational coursework so I can remain on the cutting edge of new products and procedures. I am also involved in my profession, attending Specialty Practice seminars about Implants and Prosthodontic treatment. I am on the Board at UIC where, 4-6 times per year, I spend time evaluating and recommending Prosthodontic Fellows with my peers, all practicing prosthodontists. We are identifying talent for the future!

Early in my career, I was an instructor at Northwestern University’s Dental School. That’s how I discovered that I like to teach people. Though it requires hours of preparation and lots of energy, I continue to present educational seminars to patients interested in their dental health and appearance, at a local hotel. These are held six times a year, at no cost. Call the office to find out the next date.

While treating patients, I often discover people that have an interest in specific topics or activities that I never knew existed. When they talk about this for even a minute, I see their genuine smile, which is different than the one I see when I ask them to smile intentionally. They always agree that their passion makes them enthusiastic to continue learning and growing. That is a good thing! I would encourage everyone to find their passion and make time for it – as long as it doesn’t interfere with brushing and flossing!
